Welcome to KKT!

KAPITALL KIDS' THEATRE produces innovative, creative and exciting theatre for children. Our last production was The Pea and the Princess. Find out more about what's coming in 2010.

KKT history

Formed in late 2000 specially to produce a family pantomime for the Wellington City Council's Summer City Festival 2001, KKT's first production was a highly innovative version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The adaptation was written by the company's co-founder Mary Coffey. KKT has since produced for the Summer City Pantomime:

  • Aladdin 2002
  • Little Red Riding Hood
  • Hansel and Gretel
  • Puss In Boots.

Several of these productions were re-produced for school holidays.

Since its inception, KKT has performed well-loved as well as new works during each school holiday period (with the exception of Christmas). Other producitons have included:

  • The Land Of Lost Ice Cream
  • Sydney - A Snail's Tale
  • Three Little Pigs - The Kune Kune Squealers
  • Riki Kiwi
  • Jack and The Beanstalk

and, of course, the favourite Badjelly The Witch.

Each production features KKT's 'trade-mark' elements, such as songs and dances, and, where possible, large 'production numbers' at the start and end of each show. There's often a 'twist in the tale' of traditional stories, and updated and easily identifiable character types in the new stories as well as the adaptations. There's also a unique Kiwi flavour given to many of the shows. Lots of KKT productions have that traditional pantomime feel, and the stories are told on many levels to entertain not only the 'littlies', but also the mums and dads and grandparents too!
